Winning with our Values
We believe that living our company Values helps us win in business – and in support of that theme, we launched a competition linking our Values with our Code of Business Conduct.
The competition involved an online game in which employees had to identify which parts of our Code were associated with bringing to life each of our core Values. So, for example, parts of the Code to do with discrimination and harassment, human rights, health and safety and data privacy linked closely with ‘valuing each other’. Or those parts to do with marketing and innovation, brand protection and quality linked with our Value ‘passionate about customers and consumers’.
‘Our policies are just a set of words if we don’t bring them to life by consistently demonstrating how we live our Values,’ said Ann Mickle, corporate relations manager, compliance and ethics. ‘This year, we were planning to revise our Code of Business Conduct, and wanted to understand how employees link compliance and ethics issues and our Values and to engage them with thinking about our Code in a new way. To start people considering how to make this link, we came up with the idea of a competition that would raise awareness in a creative way. An online game with a video was a fun way of getting employees to take part, and we were delighted with the response, with some 1,700 employees entering to win an iPad2.’
